The ASEAN–UK Engineering Biology Symposium

The ASEAN–UK Engineering Biology Symposium was successfully held on 10–12 November 2025 in Bangkok, bringing together nearly 80 scientists, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from ASEAN and the United Kingdom to advance collaboration in this fast-growing field. Marking the 3rd ASEAN–UK dialogue on Engineering Biology—following Singapore (2024) and London (2025)—the symposium showcased the UK’s global leadership in engineering biology and featured a valuable field visit to Thailand Science Park.

This Symposium is supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Tactical Fund, managed by the UK Science and Technology Network, and delivered in partnership with ASEAN COSTI, with support from the UK Mission to ASEAN, and implementation by BIOTEC and NSTDA Thailand.

Key proposals emerging from the discussions include a scoping study on engineering biology in ASEAN and ASEAN guidelines for standards and measurement to support safe and responsible development. ASEAN looks forward to continued partnership with the UK in advancing innovation, sustainability, and regional resilience through engineering biology.
