In the final month of 2024, Startup ASEAN, a new platform was introduced, aimed at strengthening the startup ecosystem across Southeast Asia and establishing the region as a hub for global innovation.
Launched in anticipation of Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2025, Startup ASEAN forms a key part of the ASEAN Technology Startup Ignite initiative under Malaysia’s Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) for Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). The platform’s objectives include promoting startup-friendly policies, enhancing the ecosystem’s infrastructure, and fostering impactful collaborations among the ASEAN Member States.
The initiative’s soft launch was officiated by His Excellency Chang Lih Kang, Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation. He described Startup ASEAN as a gateway for connecting and empowering the ASEAN startup community.
