JAKARTA, 7 December 2023 – The first Workshop on the Emerging Policy Approaches to Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in ASEAN took place online on 5 and 7 December 2023. This workshop was held in collaboration with the Science and Technology Division of the ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI), ASEAN-USAID Inclusive Growth in ASEAN Through Innovation, and the ASEAN-USAID IGNITE Trade and e-Commerce project.
Over 70 participants from various countries including ASEAN Member States (AMS), Japan, US, UK, India, France, Korea, Jamaica, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong, attended the workshop. The workshop featured a panel of experts which consisted of representatives from organisations such as ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting, ASEAN-USAID IGNITE, USAID Regional Development Mission for Asia, AI Asia Pacific Institute, BoP Innovation Centre and AI Institute of UNSW Sydney.
The workshop aims to encourage stakeholders to exchange and deliberate on strategies for the ethical advancement and use of Generative AI in AMS. The participants also covered most recent advancements in international policies, deliberated on regulatory deficiencies, and aimed to discover, analyse, and provide recommendations for ASEAN regarding the use of generative AI.
