ASEAN Intervention Session on the Impacts of Tropical Cyclones Towards Disaster and Climate Resilience

The ASEAN Intervention Session on the Impacts of Tropical Cyclones Towards Disaster and Climate Resilience was convened on 27–28 November 2025 in Manila, Philippines. The event was hosted by the Department of Science and Technology through the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA). This two-day engagement brought together policymakers, researchers, academics, and partners from Japan, represented by the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience, to foster dialogue and collaboration on critical regional challenges.

The programme featured in-depth discussions on tropical cyclone mitigation strategies, the application of science and technology in disaster risk reduction (DRR), and future climate projections related to tropical cyclone behaviour, among others. The session also examined potential partnerships involving the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) through the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) with the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre). These collaborations are expected to enhance knowledge sharing, develop innovative mitigation strategies, and advance regional preparedness for natural hazards in alignment with ASEAN’s broader resilience and sustainability objectives.
